Fair-Repairs is a marketplace where car owners post repairs and local shops bid for the work. We are launching in the Atlanta, Georgia area.
When a customer posts a repair, shops within about 20 miles of their ZIP code are notified. You see the vehicle, the problem and any photos or video before you decide to bid.
Send your own price and timeline, and revise your bid any time before it is accepted. You can message the customer with questions first. If diagnosing takes real time, you can include an optional diagnostic fee in your bid. It is part of your price, not added to it. When you finish, you write up what you found (photos recommended) and mark the diagnosis finished. The customer can still cancel for a full refund for 24 hours; after that you keep that fee (less the platform commission, which on a cancelled diagnosis is at least $15 or the whole fee if it is smaller) even if the customer then cancels, and if they go ahead it counts toward the repair.
When a customer accepts your bid, they pay before you start, and the payment is held until the work is done. You are not chasing an invoice. Payment is released to you when the customer confirms the work, or automatically 5 business days after you mark it finished if they do not respond.
If you find more that needs fixing, send a change order with the amount and the reason. The customer approves and pays for it before you do the extra work.
If you come to the customer, mark your shop as mobile. The customer provides their address when they accept your bid.
Joining, browsing jobs and bidding are free right now. Fair-Repairs charges a commission on jobs that are completed, currently 10%, which is taken out of your payout. Customers pay the price of your bid with no added fee. Fees can change, and the current terms are in our Terms of Service.
